Alderman Moore and 100 Advocates Unveil Chicago Clean Power Ordinance
Ordinance Would Make Chicago one of first to Regulate Coal Plant Pollution

VISUALS:      Over 100 advocates will gather in City Hall with signs calling for cleaner air, better health and a greener city.

WHAT:     Community groups will pack City Hall to support the announcement of the Chicago Clean Power Ordinance, which would make Chicago one of the only cities in the nation to limit soot and greenhouse gas pollution from coal plants.

Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health have found that Chicago’s 2 coal plants, the Fisk plant in Pilsen and the Crawford plant in Little Village, are responsible for 41 premature deaths, 550 emergency room visits and 2,800 asthma attacks annually.

The ordinance is one of the first of its kind and will protect public health, promote clean energy and help Chicago live up to its pledge to be the greenest city in America. The ordinance will be introduced by Alderman Joe Moore and is cosponsored by Alderman Sandra Jackson (7th), Alderman Toni Preckwinckle (4th) and Alderman Eugene Schulter (47th).
